Design

The C-series is the most stylish of TCL s TV lines. The screen is surrounded by 0.3-inch brushed metal bezels at the top and sides, with a 2.4-inch speaker area below covered in what looks like fabric. The IT 65C807 4K TV has a couple of 8-watt speakers, which will have a striking soundbar-like visual aspect but don’t actually offer appreciably better power or audio quality than other TVs. There is a silver TCL logo in the center of the grille, with an indicator light under it.

All wired connections including Ethernet, HDMI ports, USB port, antenna/cable connection and optical audio tracks output face right at the right edge of the screen. The 3.5mm audio input and output connectors are situated directly back near to the left side of it as well. There are no composite or component inputs on this TV, which might be a problem for you if you want to connect older devices. A four-direction controller sits on the lower right corner of the back of this television.

Remote and Roku TV

The included remote is a Roku TV-enhanced remote, just like the one that comes with the 55P607. It’s an average candy bar-shaped wand with a prominent purple navigation pad accompanied by playback and menu controls. Four dedicated service buttons offer access to Hulu, Netflix, Sling TV and Starz. The right side of the remote includes a volume rocker and a mute button. On the left is a 3.5mm headphone jack for use with earphones or your own headphones. This model provides Roku’s Private Listening feature, which mutes down the TV and streams all soundtracks through headphone jacks when you plug it in to pay attention without disturbing other people.

The workaround is to use your voice to search for any films or Television series based on title, actor, genre, or other aspects. Streaming providers like Serp show up on this tv, so you have to provide options for watching them through any streaming service they offer.

You can use voice search to get information about the weather or scores for games, but you cannot control smart devices as you could with Alexa and Google Assistant.

The TCL C807 uses the Roku TV platform for software and streaming services. It features a full-featured linked TV system that covers almost all big streaming names (except iTunes, of course), along with a huge selection of more interest- and region-focused specialized channels. With the Roku software installed, you can also mirror your smartphone or tablet to it easily.

Performance

We test TVs using a DVDO AVLab 4K test pattern generator, a Klein K-10A colorimeter, and SpectraCal CALMAN software on the Razer Blade Pro laptop. The C807 model offers high contrast that is comparable to more expensive sets, with a 350.38cd/m2 peak brightness and a 0.03cd/m2 black level for an impressive 17,519 contrast ratio. The 65C807 also edges out the Vizio M-series in contrast, 14376 to 10036.

The tcl 65c807 4k tv supports high dynamic range (HDR), similar to the 55P607, and displays both HDR10 and Dolby Vision content, so that you can watch HDR video from any consumer streaming source or physical media. With the latest generation of HDR and wide color gamut televisions, calibrating to a specific disc’s calibration is less relevant. This TV should show colors calibrated to Rec.709 broadcast standards, but some of these TVs can reach beyond the standard ranges. We need to check other picture modes measure their broad range of color. Those modes, like Movie and Vivid, have traditionally been inaccurate when it comes to color, but that’s changing.

The chart above displays all of the measured colour points in an 807 CTV set on its Vivid picture mode with a Warm color temperature.
Red and green cells exceed Rec.709 standards, but never too far into one direction or another. The color performance for the C8 is as good or better than you’d find on most TVs. Despite a slightly more warm, magenta tone that leans towards true red, it still works well in TV mode The Vizio M-series also displays excellent color, its performance on compatibility with HDR10 being the sole reason for scoring it below the Sony XBR-A1E TVs in this category. If you want an even better image quality than what those offer, you will have to choose a much more expensive flagship LED TV such as the LG SJ95

The BBC’s THE WORLD II was beautiful on the TCL C807, with deep greens in the foliage in the Deserts episode. Sharp-eyed viewers will notice details like leaves on treetops and fluffiness on sloths. Beauty notwithstanding, shadows under shady trees look a bit subdued. The light affects shadow details, however not to the point of looking beaten up.

The FANTASTIC Gatsby has a lot of shadow detail when it’s played on the TV. From skin tones to the texture of dark suits, all aspects are clearly highlighted thanks to excellent contrast and lighting.

Extras: The shadows do not look as dark, but they still have detail and the picture is well-balanced.

Input Lag and Power Consumption

The TV’s input lag defaults to 33.9ms, which we find excellent given the category of TVs and $650 price tag. Changing to Game Mode cuts that down even more (although it may slightly affect picture quality), reducing input lag to a near-perfect 15.3ms – an extraordinary achievement from any perspective when coupled with the TV’s When choosing a gaming monitor, you’ll want it to have as little input lag as possible.

The TCL 55C807 uses 99 watts under normal viewing conditions and 67 watts in low power mode. (See image below for reference) For comparison, the 65-inch Vizio M65-E0 consumes 151 watts in its Calibrated picture mode and 91 watts when calibrated to a Darker setting.

Conclusions

The TCL C807 series does not reach the same level of performance or value as the 55P607, but it is very close. The trendy design and faux-soundbar bottom bezel provide a level functionality that surpasses what you get with your average Roku TV platform. The TCL 55P607 remains our pick among budget TVs, but you may want to give the C807 series a look if you need a larger screen.

The TCL 65C807 offers excellent display quality in line with the Editors Choice Vizio M-series and an affordable price tag. It supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, making it easy to recommend as a comparable TV. The TCL offers a brighter, yet less bright screen than that of the P607. It also runs on Roku TV platform with more streaming options and services. Vizio’s interface is simplified, but still offers many apps for watching programs or accessing other sources like Google Cast.
