One for the street
The mouse was created to be considered a traveling companion first and foremost-the entire size is only the palm of my hand. More precisely, it measures 1.4 by 2.4 by 3 thumbs high (HWD) and weighs 0.06 ounces, best for putting in your jacket pocket or even pockets in your trousers too. Even though this mouse is very small, the materials don’t feel cheap and it provides a feeling of heft due to its size. Even larger mice like the Corsair Sabre RGB Gaming Mouse are more wide and longer (1.49 x 3.15 x 4.88 inches), which means that it’s only slightly bigger than the tiny Logitech
The build of the new Logitech MX2s mouse is sleek and features a metallic finish. The bottom surface of the mouse also has rubber finger rests for ease of use, with cool geometric patterns on each side.
Our test unit is black but it can be purchased in different colors such as white or teal.
Placing the scroll wheel directly in touch changes its function. One mode permits mouse speed oriented scrolling, moving as fast as your finger can twist the scroll wheel to fly up or down. The scroll wheel is the best for zooming in on where you need to click, and quick scrolling through pages. The button mode, click-to-click scroll style, allows you to go more precisely from item to item (on, for instance, a playlist or spreadsheet) without having to use your mouse at all.
Logitech designed the MX Anywhere 2S Mouse to turn on and off without unplugging. You can switch between your paired devices at any time by using a switch under the device, and three light indicators let you know which is paired (or will pair). You can hook up this mouse either wirelessly or via a USB adapter, for a selection of 32 feet.
This is a mouse with seven buttons so it can do anything: You can push the scroll wheel up or down, you have the left and right click, and four other customizable buttons. Possibly the most interesting aspect of this mouse is an assignable button under the scroll wheel. You can configure four different sets of commands and quickly switch between them with a quick gesture, like lifting your thumb while moving the mouse up to open Windows start menu.
Logitech has included an intuitive software that helps you program the scrolling wheel and the buttons to help you expedite tasks like pulling up your calculator, raising your quantity, or executing a macro. “Flow,” a feature of Logitech’s “MX Anywhere 2s” mouse, is distinctive in that it permits you to manoeuvre your cursor across computers, even though they are on the same Wi-Fi network.
The Logitech MX Anywhere 2s also has two-screen copying and pasting capabilities, making it easier to copy between your computers. It takes a second or two for the file to transfer, but it saves you the manual work of moving files with USB sticks, network drives, or emailing something to yourself. Combined with easy wireless syncing and three-device pairing, hopping between machines is made incredibly simple and efficient.
Using the mouse on a daily basis may reduce battery life to about 70 days if turned on and off 6 hours per day, but you’ll have it plugged in or charged more of the time. That specific time will vary depending your use, but that’s a ballpark estimate. The mouse also comes with an auto sleep mode to save battery power, which means it may need to be plugged in only occasionally-maybe even never.

One of the less obvious but equally important design aspects is the use of Logitech’s Darkfield sensor. Logitech’s tracking technology allows mice to track accurately on surfaces other than traditional mouse pads, meaning users are not tied down by their desk and can take advantage of any free surface in their lap. It is compatible with glass tables that are up to 4mm thick, which usually render laser mice obsolete. Instead of tracking irregularities on the surface, Darkfield uses tiny details to create a micro-road map and finds position changes in order to function properly on glass surfaces. The sensor can be set between 400DPI and 4000DPI at 200DPI increments.
The Darkfield sensor works as advertised, tracking even on glossy surfaces without missing a beat. Although some surfaces are smooth for physically dragging a mouse than others, hopping from the keyboard deck of a notebook computer to wood to glass requires no oversight or accuracy issues. Most surfaces work with a standard laser mouse, but it s nice to have the reassurance that no matter what your circumstances are, your mouse has traction.
Overall, the 2S mouse feels small. However, it doesn’t seem to have any inherent issues related to its size or design that would be a problem for people. If you are against small mice, this one probably will not change your mind. Although the MX Anywhere 2S can’t offer ergonomic support like a larger mouse such as the Mionix Naos 8200, it feels good for use in small spaces. The upward curve towards the palm rest helps to stabilize the mouse and make a great resting spot for those who prefer not to grip. The medial side grip doesn’t touch down at your thumb, but provides ample security for those who do. I don’t think this mouse would be a good choice if you’re not going to use it as your only desk mouse. It is considerably larger than other options, and there are better choices for that.

Logitech’s MX Anywhere 2S succeeds in form and function, but it is pricey. It is very difficult to get a precise mouse movement at various angles or with the hand off of the table surface. The Darkfield sensor helps solve this issue because it can detect glass surfaces and other materials that are not opaque, so there’s no need to spin in circles when you’re on your way up from sitting. The Logitech MX Anywhere 2S is the best mouse for international travel because it offers Flow technology and a solid construction.
