HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) design

The Spectre x360 is the most amazing laptop by far.

Before the Creation of The Spectre x360, other laptops were struggling with Aspects such as The webcam- which had a generally large and bulky size that made it difficult to accommodate on smaller machines. The x360 includes an Ethernet-style drop-jaw to accommodate a full USB-A port, and its air inlets have been enlarged to provide better cooling. The only major casualty of the laptop’s small chassis are top-firing speakers that have now been moved underneath.

If you were t already considering the Spectre x360 to be one of the most amazing laptops, it really is now.

Between its faceted corners and chamfered edges, the Spectre x360 looks like it was crafted by a master jeweler. On the lid is an elegant chrome logo matching a set of shiny-silver hinges.

The laptop has a silver deck with matching keys and sleek, gem-cut edges. If you need a little bit of color, choose one of the two beautiful finishes: Poseidon Blue with brass accents or Nightfall Black with copper.

It can be difficult to get distracted by the laptop’s stunning design since it is a 2-in-1 laptop—with flexible hinges, you can position the computer into tent, studio or tablet mode. The hinges are sturdy enough that the screen didn’t wobble even when I tapped onto it with force.

At 12.1 x 7.7 x 0.7 inches and 2.7 pounds, the Spectre x360 is lighter but slightly thicker compared to the XPS 13 2-in-1 (11.7 x 8.2 x 0.5 inches, 2.9 pounds), the Yoga C930 (12.2×8 .6

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) ports

Don’t worry about carrying your USB Type-A cord to hook up your favorite laptop. The Spectre x360 includes a clever drop jaw port that can expand for easier connection.

You need to lift the computer slightly off a surface in order to plug anything into it, but this is clearly a concession I am willing to make if it keeps me from having to deal with dongles.

Headphone and mic jacks are on the left side of the notebook, while there are two Thunderbolt 3 ports along with a microSD card slot next to a webcam kill switch. My only complaint is that the Thunderbolt 3 ports are not paired, so it’s a bit tricky to charge if one USB-C port needs charging.

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) display

The Spectre x360 includes two touch-screen options: 1080p or 4K OLED. As tempting as that high-res oled panel may be, you will not have any complaints with the 13.3-inch, 1080p display panel I tested. The low-power panel is vivid, detailed and–as we’ve seen in previous HP

I was hooked to the latest Star Wars movie the moment Rey and Kylo Ren started dueling with lightsabers, which emitted vivid blue and red color hues over the Spectre x360’s futuristic panel. The 1080p screen displayed enough resolution for me to see fine details, such as the rivets on an X-wing fighter as it flew overhead.

The touch screen responded swiftly to my swipes and taps as I browsed the web, used the on-screen keyboard, and operated in tablet mode.

Despite being with a decreased color gamut of 109% sRGB, compared to 117% sRGB or 150%, the Spectre x360 still manages to offer vivid colors with it’s 13.3-inch UHD touchscreen display. With a 100% color gamut, the Yoga C930 is more colorful compared to the Spectre x360 13s.

Previous Spectre x360 displays were already a little bit dim. This one peak at 369 nits, and it was not the brightest out of all the notebooks tested. The XPS 13 2-in-1 (516 nits) set an example brightness that could be bested only by two other laptops: the Yoga C930 (558

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) performance

Our laptop did an admirable job during our use, with no bottlenecks or lags. The laptop didn’t lag when I opened 15 tabs in Google Chrome, four of which were playing 1080p videos.

It’s worth noting that HP chose Ice Lake, a 10-nanometer chipset with Spectre x360 Iris Plus graphics. But it doesn’t provide the raw power of other laptops with the available six-core Core i7 Comet Lake CPU — including my XPS 13.

3DMark Fire Strike

The 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD inside Spectre x360 is not the fastest. It took the notebook 16 seconds to duplicate 4.97GB of multimedia files for an interest rate of 318.1 megabytes per second, which is slower than the XPS 13 2-in-1 (463 MBps), Yoga C930 (339

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) graphics

The Spectre x360 has an Intel Iris Plus, which is better than the integrated UHD graphics in most laptops. It scored 107,453 on 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited benchmark, beating its predecessor (90,977) and competitors (95,845).

The Spectre x360 can play games, so long as they are not running on Ultra graphics settings. The notebook computer ran Dirt 3 at a respectable 47 fps which matches the XPS 13 2-in-1 and speeds in C930 Yoga night (37 fps). It is interesting that the previous Spectre x360 (56 fps) and average laptop (38 fps) were able to handle this game better.

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) audio

The Spectre x360 s compact size means it has a small footprint, but its speakers were also moved. The deep and powerful bottom-facing speakers can fill a medium room with sound. Your Spectre x360 sounded great as the sounds of Coldplay’s Everyday Life resonated throughout the sound stage. I was able to hear all of the subtle stops and starts in Chris Martin’s vocals, even though heavier-sounding instrumentation filled up much of the frequency spectrum. When I switched over to Glass Animals’ Gooey, however, it

More troubling, however, is a harsh buzzing or rattling sound I heard when hearing treble-heavy music with the sound at max volume. Dropping the quantity right down to 75% solved the problem, but I shouldn’t need to worry about playing my music too loud.

The Spectre x360 13-inch laptop gets the same great keyboard as its prior model. The HP’s Chiclet-style keys are large, well spaced and have adequate travel for a thin notebook computer. The response of the keys when I typed was satisfying, with enough resistance to provide the perfect tactile feedback.

One small complaint is that the keys are not backlit, and the bright fonts make it difficult to see. Fortunately most of the keys have a second form of light, so reading becomes easier.

Windows Precision drivers come standard on the Spectre x360 13, which is widely considered an upgrade over previous Synaptics drivers. The touchpad also had no problems maintaining my rapid swipes and Windows 10 gestures, including two-finger scrolling and pinch-to-zoom. Though it s not the most responsive experience, this is overall a comfortable laptop that does everything you need it to.

This laptop comes with an HP Stylus Pen ($65 value) and a leather sleeve, which I found helpful. The stylus’s precision was perfect for scrolling down web pages smoothly or drawing in Paint 3D.

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) battery life

I have no idea why HP released a charger with the Spectre x360. You will rarely require it. In all seriousness, the notebook lasted an unbelievable 13 hours and 20 minutes on our battery test, that involves continuous web surfing over Wi-Fi at 150 nits In comparison, the XPS 13 2-in-1 (10:57), the Yoga C930 (8:09) and common premium notebook computer (8:37) powered down hours ago before the Spectre x360. Despite having a much more compact chassis, this new model gets you an extra hour of runtime over its predecessor (12:

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) webcam

I expected little from the world’s smallest IR webcam. The two 2.2-millimeter lens takes grainy images and photos. Importantly, the camera accurately captured the blood-red hues of my scarlet T-shirt.

The Spectre x360’s webcam is a pale substitute for an external camera.

If you’re concerned about hackers snooping on you, the Spectre x360’s webcam could be prevented with a kill switch positioned at the proper edge of the laptop. Flipping it to the off position cuts power to your camera – there is no way for it to turn on without consent.

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) heat

Even though the Spectre x360 has a sleek aesthetic, it becomes susceptible to overheating. We test thermals by playing a 15-minute video and then pointing our heat gun at different parts of the laptop. Temperature is dangerously high near the hinge with an average temperature of 101 degrees.} I was able to use the Spectre x360 on my lap without experiencing overheating. However, it felt warm when I picked it up due to the heat generated from its CPU.

HP Spectre x360 (13-inch, Late 2019) software and warranty

For having such refined hardware, the Spectre x360’s software is chaotic.

HP packed so many programs onto the Spectre x360 that there should be a one-stop shop for every user. There are over twelve pre-installed apps on this computer including: Documentation, Audio Switch and Pen Control as well as Support software.

Police Department Announces Major Drug Bust The highlight may be the HP Command Center, which enables you to can optimize your Wi-Fi network to improve certain tasks.

Along with the standard Windows 10 Home bloatware, HP has not included many preloaded programs. For those of you who are unfamiliar with HP laptops, ExpressVPN is a monthly fee service that I would recommend when browsing securely online.

Bottom line

HP has updated Spectre x360 13 to address some of my concerns. The latest model includes a thinner, compact chassis with slimmer bezels and lacks many compromises in performance.

Possible solution: HP is always striving for perfection and the new Spectre x360 13 provides improvements on nearly every front including a design that is more than just skin The Spectre x360 10th Gen Ice Lake processors offer incredible performance, and the battery life is amazing (much more than 13 hours).

Despite these few shortcomings, the only other 2-in-1 laptops that even come close to the Spectre x360 is Dell’s XPS 13 2-in-1 and Lenovo Yoga C940. The Spectre x360’s battery may not last for a long time, but its display can get extremely bright. We recommend a convertible notebook and battery life matters most for you, the Spectre x360 is the best.
