While there aren t any deal-breakers, this machine does underwhelm in a few areas. The laptop s battery life falls short of your competition, and its own slim bezels border a dull display. Still, the Ideapad 530S is one of the better Lenovo laptops, and an excellent option for anybody who doesn’t want to

Design

The Lenovo Ideapad 530S design reminds me of a monochrome painting you d find in a modern-day art museum. It s not flashy, but it is mesmerizing. Every design cue feels like there is always a purpose behind it, as though every inch was included for a reason; to create an elegant computer that also feels expensive

Lenovo has a 110-key keyboard that feels really good to type on and offers more room for my hands. The thin, sleek design is enhanced with a slanted hinge and chrome trim. The interior of the laptop sports an aluminum alloy body and a dark gray finish that has Lenovo branding on it.

Unfortunately, in our review the deck of the laptop chassis wobbled when I applied pressure near the touchpad. A fixed version Lenovo sent us didn t have this issue however – suggesting it is only a small problem with some models.

The Ideapad 530s, a 15-inch computer with an unusually compact 15 x 9.6 x 0.7-inch frame, is far more portable than the Acer Aspire E 15 (15×10.2×1.2 inches) or Asus ZenBook UX330UA (12.7×8.7×0.

Lenovo’s new Ideapad 530S weighs significantly less than some 14-inch laptops, including the Acer Aspire E 15 and the Asus ZenBook UX330UA which both weigh over 4.9 pounds.

Ports

The Ideapad 530S has a thin chassis which makes it light. Though it lacks an input for Thunderbolt 3, the laptop comfortably accommodates all other ports.

To the left of the screen on this laptop, you will find an HDMI, a USB 3.1 Type-C input, a headphone/mic combo jack and DC power connector.

The right side is a bit sparse, housing only a 4-in-1 card reader and another USB 3.0 port.

Display

The Ideapad 530S 15-inch screen isn t touchscreen, but it has a huge and vivid 1080p. The last time I watched the trailer for THE HOME with a Clock in its Walls, the ornate chair was clearly visible–the movie s perfect aesthetic is saved thanks to the super sharp resolution of this thing.
## I couldn’t even start to see the intricate designs on the trunk of his handmade cards.

The colorful house where the trailer is set must have been bursting with magic, but instead, it appeared uninspired. The bright orange eyes pn the living jack-o–lantern didn t scare and Cate Blanchett s beautiful purple dress disappeared against the dark scenery. The colors don’t seem as vibrant on this matte display. In addition, it’s harder to see the true color of some things because there is no gloss layer. However, that doesn’t mean that there are any bad qualities! The white balance is nice and accurate, for example.

The Ideapad 570S displayed just 72 percent of the sRGB color space. The Acer Aspire E 15 outperformed in this category, as Asus ZenBook UX330UA and the mainstream notebook average performed much better.

On the bright side, I was able to measure a good 255 nits on my Lenovo Ideapad 530S’s display. This is more than the Acer Aspire E 15 (200 nits), as well as most mainstream notebook computers out there (238 nits). The Asus ZenBook UX330UA has an even

Keyboard and Touchpad

The laptop’s backlit keyboard lacks some of the brilliance of ThinkPads, but it feels comfortable to type on.

The keyboard on the Ideapad 530 is not as great as it could be, featuring a shallow key travel and an actuation force of 71 grams.

After 10fastfingers.com test, I found that my speed was at 112 wpm on average and my accuracy dropped to 92 percent in this test.

Audio

The Lenovo Ideapad 530Ss speakers are more than loud enough to fill a large room, but the music sounds thin and flat. When I listened to Panic! At the Disco s new song High Hopes, vocals were clear though the pop track sounded muffled and veiled. The speakers didn’t separate instruments, leading to a bad mix of high-pitched drum hits and shrill guitar sounds.

When I paid attention to Avicii’s remix of Wake Me Up, Aloe Black’s smooth voice had no weight in the mix. The drum rhythm was hollow and lacked any sort of weight. Overall, these speakers are only okay for everyday listeners – but if you’re listening closely to specifics then you’ll want a different set

Performance

Built with an Intel Core i5 CPU and 8GB of RAM, the Lenovo Ideapad 530S offers plenty of performance for the purchase price. I am always afraid to clear up browser tabs; luckily, I never had to with this laptop. when I opened 20 tabs on Google Chrome and simultaneously playing Fortnite on Twitch, even with four 1080p videos running.

The ideapad 530S’s Geekbench 4 score, an 11,966, is above midrange. It was able to accomplish this despite not having a Core-i5 processor which is faster than the ideapad 530S’s CPU. While no mainstream notebook computer comes close to the performance, Lenovo Ideapad 530S (8,600) manages to outshine them all.

The Ideapad 530S was also a better onstage than the Acer Aspire 15. In our productivity test, which gives laptops work around 65,000 names with their corresponding addresses in Excel 2016, it completed the duty in 1 minute and 24 seconds– beating the Acer Aspire E 15 by one second. The mainstream notebook battery life is far behind the Ideapad 530S at 2:10.

The 256GB PCIe SSD in the Ideapad 530S took 18 seconds to duplicate 4.96GB of mixed-media files for an interest rate of 282 megabytes per second. Again, the Lenovo topped its competitors by a large margin. The Acer Aspire E15 (150 Mbps) and the Asus Zenbook UX330UA (181.8 Mbps) performed at twice the speed of a mainstream notebook computer, which transferred files at 135.9 Mbps.

In the 4K to 1080p test, the Lenovo Ideapad 530S clocked in at 21:05, coming in about at 23 minutes less than average.

Graphics

With integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics, the Ideapad 530S can’t handle demanding titles like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at high settings. The Ideapad 530S yielded a mediocre 3DMark score with a 69,450 in the Ice Storm Unlimited graphics test.

When running a game called “Dirt 3,” the Ideapad 530S was the only laptop to maintain 49 FPS, outperforming other computers with frames per second over 33.

Battery Life

The Ideapad 530s battery life is on par with its competition and the battery can last up to 8 hours. The mainstream laptop average is 7:19

Lenovo Ideapad 530s lasted for a little over seven hours, while the Asus ZenBook UX330UA only managed to last an hour longer.

Webcam

The Ideapad 530S webcam is good when you can take advantage of the narrow bezels. It s placed above the screen, as it should be and took a bit to adjust to my bright office lights, but then I could see details on my own face like strands of hair in my beard The selfie cam accurately captured the natural red tone of my face, but my dark-blue shirt leaned gray. The image I captured inside our candlight office exhibited very little noise.

Heat

The Lenovo Ideapad 530S CPU never exceeded 91 degrees Fahrenheit inside our heat test. Whenever we played a 1080p YouTube video for a quarter-hour, the touchpad maintained an acceptable 89.5 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the bottom left corner reached a temperature of 95 degrees, coming close to our 95-degree comfort threshold.

Software and Warranty

The Lenovo Ideapad 530S includes a standard catalog of pre-installed software. To its credit, Lenovo included only three branded apps: Lenovo App Explorer, Lenovo Vantage and LenovoUtility. As the name suggests, App Explorer spotlights certain software and provides you custom advice from the Microsoft App Store.

Unlike Microsoft Explorer, the Vantage software doesn’t seem to include unnecessary components. The system offers a single page where you can update your internal settings; change hardware options, modify sound levels and find support information. I don’t find myself making much use of the LenovoUtility app, which provides a visual when pressing certain hotkeys (similar to the num lock or disabling touchpad).

Lenovo Ideapad 530S comes with all of the Windows 10 bloatware we’ve come to expect. Candy Crush Saga, Disney Magic Kingdoms, and Hidden Cities games are pre-installed along with five other unnecessary titles that can hinder your experience without you even realizing it.

Lenovo’s Ideapad 530S laptop ships with a one-year limited warranty. Read the Lenovo reviews to see how it performed on our Tech Support Showdown and Best and Worst Brands ranking.

Bottom Line

Lenovo’s Ideapad 530S is a sleek-looking machine with an affordable price tag. The $699 computer offers the vast majority of capabilities, including sturdy components and narrow bezels for minimal distraction. However, the Ideapad 530S does not have a colorful display and its speakers do not impress.
