We liked the JBL Charge 3s capability to produce serious bass, but were left somewhat unimpressed using its muffled high-notes. The JBL Charge 4 offers better tonal balance with still enough bass that does not overwhelm other elements of the frequency spectrum.

The JBL Charge 4 may seem like such a boring update in writing, but it’s still among the best waterproof speakers on the market. For your money you get yourself a speaker that sounds great, is durable as nails and also acts as charger for your mobile phone. Plus they last up to all day long!


The JBL Charge 3 and Charge 4 may share a few visual similarities, but there are many notable differences between them.

Although it’s a pricey investment at $150, the JBL Charge 4 is an excellent purchase. The speaker can last for up to 24 hours, sounds great with booming bass and crisp vocals, and provides electric charging capabilities. Yes, there are better sounding speakers out there but you’ll need to spend a lot more money. (Among well-known speakers, the UE Megaboom 3 sounds worse and is more expensive.)

The JBL Pulse 3 is a solid competitor to the Charge 4 given its 360-degree sound and light show. If you value sound quality on top of those features, check out the Denon Envaya DSB-250BT, but remember this option doesn’t offer long battery life (up to 12 hrs).
