Best Discount on HP Omen Laptop in Amazon (Black Friday & Cyber Monday Sales + Deals)
The HP Omen 15 is an excellent device for gamers. With a terrific display, great cooling system and lots of response on the keyboard, it’s hard to imagine upgrading to anything better.
However, if you are interested in battery life or speedier bootup times then this laptop might not be right for you.
HP Omen 15 pricing and configurations
The HP Omen 15 configuration we were sent comes with an Intel Core i7-8750H processor, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU with 8GB of VRAM, 16GB of RAM, and 256GB SSD.
The starting price for the omen 15 is $979, which gets you a Core i5-8300H CPU, a GTX 1050 Ti with 4GB of VRAM, 8GB of RAM, 128GB SSD, and 1TB 7200 RPM HDD.

Each configuration also includes the option of a 4K panel, which jumps the purchase price to an extra $170 from the base model.
HP Omen 15 design
The HP Omen 15 laptop is a battlefield of style, where in fact the colorful Omen logo sits calmly outside of that fray as brushed aluminum and carbon fiber collide to create a crimson crosshair. My fingers tingled as they grazed over the lid.
Opening the Omen 15 laptop reveals two small hinges. Together with the slim-bezel display, this gives the computer a floating appearance that is very refreshing for gamers.
The Dell Omen 15 suffers from one glaring flaw, such as the thick and heavy plastic body and heavier weight.
HP Omen 15 ports
The HP Omen 15’s selection of ports will fulfill your gaming and streaming needs.
On the left side, this laptop has one USB 3.0 port, an SDcard slot and a headphone and microphone input.
The HP Spectre Folio is equipped with high-speed connections. It has one USB 3.0 port on the left side, and a security lock slot, HDMI 2.0 port on the right side as well as an RJ45 Ethernet port in the back.
HP Omen 15 display
The HP Omen 15 features a nice 1080p display that falls just a little behind the competition in color quality, but more than makes up for it with its 144-Hz refresh rate.
In Shadow of the Tomb Raider, you are forced to make your way through a dense jungle which soon opens up into seemingly endless greenery. Although the display seemed sharp enough to capture the details of the adorable monkey behind trees in a canopy across from me, I had to get up for reasons beyond my control and found it difficult due to how dark it was.
The most accurate colors, according to your colorimeter, can be found on the m15 (115 percent) followed by the Alienware Stealth Thin and Zephyrus S (114% and 113%, respectively).
The Omen 15’s screen measured 266 nits, and this was the dimmest of all laptops tested. Compared to the 276-nit category average, it fell below that mark by a significant amount. The Alienware m15 and Stealth Thin both shone with 284 nits and 293 nits respectively (nearly as bright as other
HP Omen 15 keyboard and touchpad
Between the laptop’s cushy plastic palm rest and evenly-spaced keys, my fingers tapped all around Omen 15’s keyboard with immense comfort. But while comfortable to type on, the key travel was a little lower than we’d like.
The backlighting provided by four zones is a good feature, and is in particular appealing because the lights are vibrant. I was not previously a fan of the boxed WASD keys, but I have to admit that having this keypad zone with its own lights was an excellent touch.
I typed at a rate of 69 words per minute on the 10fastfingers typing test. I type with an average of 66 words per minute, the keys press down 1.4mm and require 71 grams of force to actuate (we prefer 60-80 g).
The 4.0”x 2.1” touchpad is sensitive and the two buttons are responsive, but I did find that the left button was slightly lower than where it should have been– which drove me crazy every time! HP was not available for comment, but we spoke with Windows 10 people and they said that gestures like two-finger scrolling and three-finger tab switching work well.
HP Omen 15 audio
The hp omen laptop has a powerful, spacious sound. It’s especially noticeable when listening to hip-hop or pop music when the bass kicks in and vocals are clear. However, I did noticed that it had a buzzing sound when the audio tracks got too loud.
When I stumbled in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara’s voice echoed through my speakers and her nose was dripping with mud. As I listened to her mumble about how she really should have just killed this enemy, most people around me were focused on taking apart a laptop. When I started looking for my gear, the jungle was filled up with sounds, from croaking frogs to chirping birds.
The audio software, Omen Audio Control, was actually hugely useful in helping me find the perfect balance between bass and treble. However, it only has presets for Music, Movies and Voice with no soundscape preset whatsoever.
After all, come on!
HP Omen 15 gaming, graphics and VR
I had a smooth 45 fps with the Omen 15’s GTX 1070 Max-Q GPU and 8GB of VRAM running games at 1080p. The graphics were really impressive in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and I even found a knife that miraculously appeared from an airplane rudder when I stabbed an eel.
Increasing the Tomb Raider benchmark to high-quality, 1080p settings showed that the HP Omen 15 got a frame rate of 50 fps, much higher than what was typical for mainstream gaming notebooks. It even bested competitors such as the Alienware m15 by 9 frames per second (39 vs 49), and also scoring higher than laptops with GTX 1070
The Omen 15 outperformed the rest of its competition on Hitman at Ultra 1080p in our test, achieving 88 fps. The category also faced difficulties achieving an average of 66 fps, as they were all close to that number.
The Omen 15 achieved 63 fps in the Grand Theft Auto V benchmark (HIGH, 1080p), which outpaced the 46-fps category average. The Zephyrus S and Alienware m15 outperformed it with 64 fps and 66 fps respectively. The Stealth Thin was only two frames behind the Omen 15.
Best and Worst Laptop Gaming Brands
The Omen 15 (8.6) had the least VR experience out of all laptops on our list with an average 9.5, beating only the Alienware m15’s 6.3 score.
HP Omen 15 performance
The HP Omen 15’s Intel Core i7 processor, 16 GB RAM, and 1080p Spider-Man trailers weren’t enough to slow down the laptop either.
The Geekbench 4.1 efficiency test found that the EMEN 15 possessed a higher score than most other mainstream gaming notebooks, but was still outperformed by the Alienware m15 with a Core i7-8750H processor.
Hide’s omen 15 transcoded 4K video to 1080p in ten minutes and 25 seconds, finishing 20 minutes faster than the average. Things got more complicated with Lenovo’s Zephyrus S and Alienware M15, each of which finished it just 10 or 11 minutes slower respectively.
HPs 256GB SSD copied 4.97GB of data in a sluggish 22 seconds, for 231 megabytes per second, which does not reach the 300-MBps category average. The Stealth Thin s 512GB SSD (193 MBps) didn t make it either, however the Zephyrus S 512GB SSD hit 424 MBps, and
HP Omen 15 battery life
Gaming laptops are demanding on the electrical power running, but HP Omen 15 battery life is shorter than expected. After averaging Wi-Fi at 150 nits of brightness, the laptop lasted only 3 hours and 47 minutes as opposed to an average of 4:31 among others. However, the Zephyrus S (3:33) didn’t do any better at all.The Alienware m15 (6:25) and Stealth Thin (5:40) lasted quite well in this area.
HP Omen 15 webcam
The release of the Omen 15s webcam prompt a flashback to some cinematic horror movies. The lighting was dark and ominous, and there was an ill coloring that washed through everything I saw.
I could even see the pixels on my forehead when the subject was zoomed out. I would advise buying an external webcam if you plan to broadcast.
HP Omen 15 heat
The HP Omen 15 got surprisingly hot after playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider for a quarter-hour straight. The keyboard and touchpad reached 84 degrees and 82 degrees respectively, well over our 95 degree comfort threshold. The HP Omen laptop sometimes reaches 143 degrees Fahrenheit and the bottom left side of the machine is particularly susceptible to overheating.
It was not too bothersome while I showed a 15-minute 1080p video. Throughout that time, the Omen 15’s underside reached 101 degrees; the keyboard reached 100 degrees and the touchpad measured 85 degrees.
HP Omen 15 software and warranty
However, HP includes a few of its typical bloatware along with the useful Omen Command Center, which monitors your CPU, GPU RAM and network speeds.
This laptop features a network booster, which prioritizes bandwidth usage and provides bright keyboard lighting.
Okay, there are other worse things to have on your laptop than Netflix and solitaire.
HP offers a one-year limited warranty on the Omen 15. Details about HP’s performance on our Tech Support Showdown and Best and Worst Brands ranking can be found elsewhere in this article.
The HP Omen 15 has a great display, decent speakers and comfortable keyboard. However, I can’t look past its dim nighttime screen and noisy speakers when they get too loud.
Alienware devices are specifically created with gamers in mind, and particular models offer enhanced performance for graphics card and battery life.
However, if you are not interested in spending more then $2,000 on a laptop then the HP Omen 15 is an excellent bet.
