Garmin Forerunner 735XT price and release date

The Garmin Forerunner 735XT was launched in May 2016, meaning it is not the most recent on the market. However, it still stacks up to the best on offer at this time.

The price has been dropping, where it started at around $350 and now you can buy it for $300 in lots of places. Black Friday deals sometimes saw the price drop to only $235 or even $245 with a heart monitor that was packed-in during those sales, so keep your eyes peeled if you’re eager to get one.

Design and screen

Among the best features of 735XT is how sleek it looks. As opposed to the 910 or 920, previous triathlon-specific watches made by Garmin were too chunky for comfort.

Pretending that I know more about garmin forerunner 735xt than you do.

The two colors of the 735XT are a dark color, and one that looks like frost blue (we tested this latter variety, which was nice-looking and attracted attention because we were noticing how well it matched skin tones when wearing the strap tight with exercising).

The straps are also easy to secure you’ll be able to on the spot try something similar to the Samsung Equipment Sport, with its several holding lugs preventing frustration.

The screen on the Forerunner 735Xt is not as bright and clear as other watches available, but it is still readable in any lighting conditions.

The Garmin Forerunner 735XT runs on a transflective screen which, in combination with the available light, renders text a lot more legible during nighttime. The illuminating light is also very readable during night-time and requires minimal battery usage – as does some of its other features.

Running

The Garmin Forerunner 735XT is a great running watch because it features accuracy and usability.

The Forerunner 630 is a dedicated running model, but it featured a touchscreen and we found this to be very irksome. The 735XT fixed the problem with its user-friendly buttons, which ensured we could complete tasks without having to stop our activity.

The Garmin Forerunner 735XT excels in accuracy, and is therefore our go-to device for any race where we want to benchmark another wearable. We’ve even learned to question the accuracy of mile markers during races–such is the reliability of the GPS.

That GPS has a hypersensitive click (way more than the Garmin Forerunner 935), and it offers many benefits, including better battery life.

We won’t go into detail on everything the 735XT can do, but suffice to say we are mostly satisfied. Virtual pacing, lap/pace alerts that one can customize, and the ability to drop training plans from online sources onto it make for a neat watch in general.

The customisation on the info screens can be excellent, meaning you never have to break stride when running in order to ensure the best running experience.

The running dynamics are interesting, but we’re not sure how many people would get a lot of value out of them. The only really useful thing is being able to monitor whether you’re landing harder on the left or the right, and you’ll need an extra heartrate strap in order to access that information.

Further to the menu of benefits of incorporating the Garmin Forerunner 735XT, one more thing a lot of people enjoy is the inclusion of heartrate variability (HRV) tracking. This enables you to know when your body is running out and may monitor changes in aerobic activity to anaerobic.

It’s worth noting that knowing this, and we found it to be very accurate inside our marathon training, will help you over a long race by making sure you don’t cross your lactate threshold and begin engaging in oxygen deficit. One of the more niftier features on this watch is Garmin Bundles Smart Coach.

The heart-rate monitor is accurate, but takes a while to get going before you get an accurate reading.

When it captures every step detailed and every minute, the Forerunner 735XT is effective. It’s a good way to track everything from your resting heart rate, progress towards goals, even how much water you drink.

Multi-sport

The Garmin Forerunner 735XT also offers cycling and water skiing modes for those more adventurous activities. The same metrics are available, too.

For swimmers, we found that the Garmin Forerunner 735XT is an excellent choice, as it has a proper swim mode and can also track your stats in case you need to take a break.

We had issues with speed accuracy as well. There were instances when the device didn t register a change in pace, or where it would incorrectly estimate distance traveled.

Although the transitions seem in order, it appeared we were not pushing off correctly

The interaction of the buttons and screen underwater is straightforward, with many features working well in testing.

Put simply, although the Forerunner 735XT’s accuracy may sometimes be mistaken for a failure, its swimming capabilities in pools are some of the best on the market. Although we haven’t tested it in open water yet, if it
behaves like its predecessor (and you should assume Garmin made significant improvements) then tracking is accurate and stroke

This means that it will do everything the other Garmin watches can and more. It is a triathlete’s dream come true as it offers connections with ANT+ or Bluetooth power meters. Alternatively, you can just use a computer to upload your activities on Garmin Connect where most power meters will be accurately tracked in addition to heart rate, speed

The only thing unpalatable is the lack of strap extender, so it’s not easy to lock this watch into your handlebars as an instant readout of your stats.

Battery

The battery life of this watch was responsive and best-in-class. On average, we were able to make it five days without needing a charge–even if the watch is being used as an exercise tracker throughout the day.

The Forerunner 735XT lasts a really long time, even if it’s linked to your phone.

In our 31.1-mile test, the Forerunner 735XT only lost 30% of its battery power, which is really impressive especially considering how little UltraTrac actually helps this model

However, the fact that you can go the whole week without recharging is a major plus.

Interface

The interface of the Forerunner 735XT is simple to use when you get your mind around it and discover the key functions enabled by holding down various keys.

It is simple to change pace, and this can be a delightful element for runners like us who want to alter their virtual pacer (function where you could observe how far ahead or behind some speed they are) during a race.

The tablet s notifications on this watch when linked to your phone will quickly inform you the necessity of looking at a text or WhatsApp message, which saves time and keeps you active.

The Garmin Connect software is a “love it or hate it” platform. We are fans of what the iphone app can do, but sometimes get overwhelmed with its different types of menus and options.

Garmin Forerunner 735XT.

Sleep tracking is just a little rudimentary and lacks the insight of some competing platforms, but overall it provides an excellent look at your motion during the night and has more sensitivity than something similar to Samsung Health; we like that.

Verdict

The Garmin 735XT is an excellent multi-purpose watch that shines as a triathlon watch. Recent pricing has made it more affordable, which also makes it a stellar running watch with hrm included.

The Garmin Forerunner 735xt is a durable device that features a clear screen, great battery life and accurate tracking. This watch has the capability to offer deep insights into many areas of your fitness life and can be either an ideal companion for something like a marathon or more basic workouts.

MUST I buy it?

At the recent prices, yes. It s a sleek and sophisticated watch that has many features, but it doesn’t require to use all of them.

The maps on the watch are so good you may have to question how races can accurately be organised, as I had several other Garmin watches going ping before we even got to a mile marker.

The different modes you can set on this watch for running, cycling, or swimming and an attractive design make it one of the best fitness watches to buy.
