AMD is eager to win back its market share in the eight-core CPU space with its Ryzen processors, and so far it looks like they may be on track for success. A lot of the excitement is due if a decent price tag and solid performance across article marketing and productivity workloads, even if Ryzen isn’t universally superior as was hoped AMD s Zen architecture is a step in the right direction, but it still has an IPC deficit when compared to Intel s Kaby Lake. AMD’s prestigious Ryzen 7 1700 comes with the latest XFR (eXtended Frequency Range) technology that enables it to go beyond its boost ceiling if your thermal solution is beefy enough. On the other hand, this particular model falls short of AMD’s famed XFR feature set by a hundred MHz in comparison and can only facilitate an all- 1700 also includes a 95W Wraith Spire cooler, which is the stock cooler with the 1800X.

1700 competes in a brutally competitive segment, to the point that the $330 price is slightly less than even the Core i7-7700K. It has double the L3 cache of its predecessor and around 50% more cores, but it still does t outdo Intel’s slightly cheaper competitor. Even the Intel Core i5-7600K, one of its most notable parts for gamers on a budget, competes with Ryzen processors at times using certain workloads.

We’ve found that there are a few games where the performance of the Ryzens falls below what one might expect. But AMD contends that most games have already been patched to optimize for Ryzen or will soon be optimized for it. Encouragingly, Stardock/Oxide recently released Ashes of the Singularity: Escalation and has optimized their Valve also released an update for Dota 2.
