Android Wear is Google’s wearable operating system for mobile devices and watches. One fascinating detail is that watches from all of these fashion brands, including Diesel, Skagen, and Misfit, are produced by the Fossil Group.
Fossil has launched an Android Wear 2.0 smartwatch called the Misfit Vapor in India for Rs 14,495. The Misfit Vapor is priced less than other Android watches currently on the market and it does not have as much of a premium price tag attached to its brand name as Google’s own Pixel range of devices that start at To find out, we’ll test the watch.
Misfit Vapor design
Misfit has gone the other direction by choosing a circular watch dial. The Vapor has a 1.39-inch round AMOLED display and includes a touch-sensitive bezel that can be utilized for scrolling, just like the iPod’s click wheel. There is no flat tire like with Moto 360 watches. Holy Misfit Vapor watch faces, the dials, and straps are packed separately. The strap of the Misfit Vapor is 20mm and made from silicone for comfortable wear. Included with the Misfit Vapor’s streamlined design is a versatile strap that can be swapped for any other 20mm watch strap.
The casing is a little large in size, with a 44mm diameter and thickness of 13.5mm. It sticks out from your wrist just enough to be noticeable when you walk, so it may occasionally hit things such as doorways. The watch is not too heavy and it’s less light than the Skagen Falster. We found that the crown button is a bit shallow, which makes it hard to press.
The Misfit Vapor does not have a speaker, like on the Diesel On Smartwatch, or built-in GPS. There is no NFC either. Even though Misfit is a fitness-oriented company, it should have included GPS in order to allow users to track their activity even more effectively.
Misfit Vapor specifications, software, and features
Like most Android Wear devices, the Vapor sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 processor. The latest device from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 3100, should be released soon and will improve performance across all smartwatches. The Vapor sports 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage space. You can use this to set up watch programs or for storing the music which you download from Google Play Music should you have a subscription. Alternatively, you may use Media Player for Wearable devices to transfer songs from your phone to your smartwatch. The Misfit Vapor Watch is swim-proof and water-resistant up to 50m. It can be used for hands-free music listening through the use of Bluetooth headphones or Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity if you’re using a smartphone for your primary way to listen to music.
The Vapor runs Android Wear 1.2, which is dependent on Android 8.0 Oreo and gets the February security patch. Its interface is comparable to that of other smartwatches in the market; to fully take advantage of it you must at least be running an operable version of Android 4.4 or iOS 9.3 respectively The Wear OS software on your smartwatch is designed to send notifications from your smartphone.
Misfit has made a few adjustments to their standard watch faces, such as adding theirs. They are designed with fitness in mind and that means you have quick shortcuts to check on your daily activity and measure your heart rate. One of the most excellent features offered on this watch is virtually unlimited customization. You can pretty much change the color of every single element, whether it be a part of your home or one on the stand-alone program. You may also download more faces from the Google Play store if you need something different. Misfit in addition has included a few The misfit vapor watch suffers from many of the same shortcomings as other watches on the market today.
Misfit Vapor performance and battery life
The Misfit Vapor is great for being outdoors. It has a nice touch screen and the new wheel feature for scrolling through cards on your phone was easy to use. The crown on the Sport variant can be used to bring up applications or return to the home screen if you are at a home screen.
This smartwatch has had occasional performance stutters in the past, but the latest software update seems to have ironed all these out. We paired a Google Pixel 2 XL with the Misfit Vapor watch, and there were no issues connecting. Since there is no speaker on the watch, all calls are routed through your phone.
You will need to download the Misfit software and create a Misfit account to enable heart rate tracking. Without this, you can track your heart rate but not keep a log of it. The Misfit iOS app is easy to use and provides you with an idea of how many steps you took each day as well as how Active sleep tracking was not supported on this watch, but we were able to use third-party software like Sleep As Android which can be downloaded to the device. It can track sleep, but you will need to manually initiate this functionality each time.
The watch’s activity tracking must be manually triggered and is fairly accurate when linked with a GPS feature. The Google Fit app on our Pixel 2 XL registered 1.07km, while the Vapor we were testing only tallied 1.01km during one of our tests for more accuracy in distance whether you’re operating sans-phone or not.
The crown can be used to initiate Google Assistant. To turn on or off voice detection, say OK Google and then push the crown once. Movements such as wrist flicking are provided in order to navigate through menus.
The Misfit battery life is substandard. We took the watch off the charger at 9 am and went right through our day with emails and WhatsApp messages, without going into conservation mode until 10 pm. Durability-wise, the Vapor can be a little burdensome. It takes two hours to charge and one day to completely drain.
The Misfit Vapor is available for sale exclusively on Flipkart, costing Rs. 14,495. With a variety of smartwatches currently on the market, the discounted price tag sets this watch apart. Although the battery life is just mediocre, and Wear OS hasn’t seen any significant updates lately, you get a heart rate sensor with this product and a virtual scroll wheel that’s helpful for UI navigation.
Wear OS is rumored to get a significant update in the near future, so it might be best not to purchase new wearables for now. However, we would recommend waiting to see whether these new models are powered by Snapdragon Wear processors.
The Apple Watch Series 1 is designed specifically for iPhone users with close integration and better fitness tracking. If you aren’t able to wait until the next sale, then at least take a look for discounts online. Within the last Flipkart sale, the Misfit Vapor was priced at Rs 9,999 which is more sensible for what’s available.
